That’s a bad beat for Bernie Kosar.
The Browns informed their franchise legend and radio contributor that they were parting ways, the former quarterback said on Sunday, and it reportedly has to do with a bet he made on Cleveland’s season finale against the Steelers.
Kosar, 59, placed the first legal sports bet in Ohio, according to his Twitter, wagering $19,000 on the Browns to win, and promised to donate the money to charity if he won. But it may have cost him, as Cleveland.com reported on Sunday that the bet is connected to Kosar losing his job with the Browns – which included serving as a team ambassador and appearing on their in-house radio shows.
“Steelers GameDay yet once again I was informed by the Browns that my services are no longer desired or needed,” Kosar tweeted on Sunday. “I will not be doing todays radio program. I am shocked & disappointed Brown & Orange is my life.”
NFL rules prohibit team employees from betting on games.
Kosar, 59, played for the Browns from 1985-1993.
